As the official charity for Auckland DHB’s adult health services, the Auckland Hospital Foundation provides a way for people to support the health workers who care for us all, while recognising that support comes in many forms – from messages of appreciation for health workers, uplifting messages for the public in isolation, through to donations for Auckland DHB hospitals.

Auckland Hospital Foundation CEO Gwen Green says, “These are challenging times, and the situation is constantly evolving, but we know that people are searching for ways to make a difference, at a time when many of us are stuck at home and feeling helpless.”

The Auckland Hospital Foundation has a ‘Greatest Needs Fund’, which allows supporters to donate to help make the biggest benefit for Auckland DHB’s health workers and patients.

As of today, that ‘Greatest Needs Fund’ is dedicated to supporting Auckland DHB’s COVID-19 response, with all donations earmarked to make a tangible difference for those most affected by the virus.

“Today’s needs may be very different to the needs in two weeks or four weeks. The Foundation is working closely with Auckland DHB and we will adapt and act as required. 100% of donated funds will support the hospital’s response; whether this involves helping health workers with welfare support, enabling research into COVID-19, purchasing equipment, or meeting newly emerging needs for patients as the situation unfolds,” says Mrs Green.

Auckland DHB Chief Medical Officer Margaret Wilsher says, “Auckland DHB thanks the Auckland Hospital Foundation, its supporters and the public for their care, compassion and assistance at this unprecedented time.”

Auckland City Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in the world. It has both local and national reach, providing vital national services to New Zealanders every day. In a typical week, around 60,000 people walk through its doors, and 7,000 babies are born there each year. Many of us literally owe the hospital our lives.

Mrs Green adds, “Auckland City Hospital has a global reputation for delivering world-class healthcare. The Auckland Hospital Foundation is committed to helping people show their appreciation for our hospital staff, and supporting Auckland DHB health workers and patients during this health crisis.

“The Foundation understands not everyone is able to donate, and we welcome people to show their support in other ways, such as sharing messages of support and gratitude for our health workers via our new microsite – www.loveyourhealthworker.org.nz – and on Facebook and Instagram with #loveyourhealthworker.”
