Meet Baby Sophie and our other autumn stars

It has been a busy start to the year, which seems to be flying by, with winter almost upon us. Catch up on our Foundation News for autumn, with a message from our Director, Candy Schroder.

The giving season has continued into 2024 for the Foundation, and I would like to personally thank our supporters for recognising the value in helping Auckland City Hospital teams achieve more for their patients and our communities.

I know many people are currently feeling the pinch, and it is an unsettling time, so your generosity is appreciated more than ever.

Thank you on behalf of all those you help in the hospital and beyond.

Our cover story introduces you to SimMum and Baby Sophie, who arrived following an amazing life-giving donation. As you will read, this ‘Mum and Baby’ duo are destined for greatness, helping the hospital’s incredible maternity team deliver babies safely when things don’t go to plan.

The newsletter also features three fundraising stars, including our own Dr Mike Shepherd, who found time in his busy schedule (running New Zealand’s largest hospital!) to raise funds for our cause; and scholarship supporter Antony whose journey reflects that of scholarship recipient Genie ‘ both have endured enormous losses and are helping others in inspiring ways.

We are thankful for the unwavering support of those mentioned in our newsletter and everyone in our giving community, which continues to grow, thus enabling the hospital to do even more for our nation’s health.

The collective efforts of every individual who gives to the hospital ‘ whether by fundraising, donating, or by any other means ‘ is helping the hospital advance in ways that simply wouldn’t otherwise be possible.

We should all feel proud of our achievements.

And this winter, we look forward to sharing more about the incredible work happening within vital teams at Auckland City Hospital ‘ including the nation’s leading Cardiovascular and Cancer teams ‘ and the wonderful difference you are making in the departments that are meaningful to you.

On behalf of everyone whose lives are touched by your generosity, I extend immense gratitude. Your positive impact spans across our hospital’s patients, whānau, communities and our hard-working health workers.

With heartfelt thanks and best wishes for the colder months ahead, ngā mihi nui,

Candy Schroder
