Preparing for COVID-19
Message from Auckland DHB Intensive Care Specialist Andrew McKee
In my role as Intensive Care Specialist at Auckland DHB, I am proud of everyone in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and the work we’ve done to try to prepare for every possible COVID-19 scenario.
We’re feeling more confident in our ability to care for patients requiring intensive care, and are doing our best to be as ready as we can for whatever may develop, but we know it’s going to be a long haul.
Our nursing staff have been exceptional, putting aside concerns about their own safety and in some cases leaving their families behind, to ensure our COVID-19 patients will receive the very best care we can provide. This is a very unsettling time for staff and they need your support, as they also face the same uncertainty and stresses of the rest of our NZ community
The COVID-19 pandemic is like nothing we’ve seen before, so our nurses are facing the prospect of delivering intensive care in a completely different way. The most important thing you can do for our ICU health workers is to stay home and stay safe, but I know they would also love to hear from you. Please share your messages of support here.
If you wish, you can also help us fight COVID-19 by donating to the Auckland Hospital Foundation’s ‘COVID-19 Response’ fund here, with 100% of donations going where they’re needed most.
From everyone in the ICU at Auckland City Hospital, thank you for helping us fight COVID-19, for everyone. Together, we will stop the spread and save lives.
You can make a
difference.
