Thanks to our supporters, we’re helping to create restorative, calming and caring spaces for family and whānau, with the goal to raise a total of $1.2 million.

A whānau room should be a beautiful, meaningful space where family can gather, take a breath, rest and restore as they support their loved ones through often challenging circumstances.  But many of these spaces are but a hospital room with basic chairs and often four bare walls.

We believe that we, as a community, can do better for our fellow friends and family spending time in hospital.

We have raised enough to refurbish seven of the 40 whānau rooms across Auckland City Hospital.  We have so many more rooms to brighten, and need to raise a further $300,000 this year alone to keep the project going.

With your help, we can keep creating beautiful spaces with modular seating, pictures on the walls, room to lie down, to plug in your mobile phone and have a cup of coffee or tea.

Paul spent 13 weeks in hospital following a lung transplant, and the whānau room at Auckland City Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit became a home away from home for his family.

“Having our family around was so important to Paul’s recovery. It was great everyone felt welcome to visit him, and great they could regroup in the waiting room, when they couldn’t all be at Paul’s bedside, which was difficult when he was so sick.

“The more welcoming and comforting these spaces can be, the better for everyone,” says Tanya (pictured right, with Paul).
