Paul’s winning fundraising formula

As we marked our 5th birthday, Paul Harvey also marked his 5th year of fundraising for Stroke Services at Auckland City Hospital, and his Long Lunch at Longroom was another big hit.

It is thanks to my sponsors and event guests that I’m able to achieve my fundraising goals.

Along with his generous sponsors and guests, Paul Harvey raised a further $10,000 towards Auckland City Hospital’s new radiology treatment suite to help give stroke patients the best chance of survival and recovery.

Over the past five years, with his sponsors’ support, Paul has raised $48,000 to help stroke patients. All money raised at Paul’s fundraising events goes directly towards improving stroke services offered at Auckland City Hospital; a cause dear to Paul’s heart, having suffered a stroke himself in 2018.

Along with the hard-working Stroke Ward staff, we are so grateful to Paul for his ongoing dedication to helping those who cared for him during his four-week stay in the hospital, where he underwent intense stroke rehabilitation therapy.

We’re proud to walk alongside Paul on his fundraising journey and are looking forward to his next event in July; with his winning formula, he’s closing in on an amazing $50k milestone!

Paul’s fundraising efforts started with supporting the Stroke Ward’s baking therapy group, which he attended as a patient in 2018. More than five years on, Paul continues to make a huge difference for the Stroke Ward’s staff, patients and whānau; helping others like him recover and rehabilitate from the often-devastating effects of a stroke.

Despite suffering his own health issues over the past five years, we truly admire Paul’s resilience and generous spirit, which he has turned into positive change in our hospital.

Paul’s Occupational Therapist at Auckland City Hospital, Helen Nicholson, said: “It’s incredible for a patient to make such an effort to help. Paul’s ongoing support to improve the rehab experience for others is hugely appreciated by both staff and patients; he has transformed our baking group, which helps our patients – both physically and mentally – on their rehab journeys.”

On behalf of everyone impacted by Paul’s generosity, we extend heartfelt thanks to him and his sponsors.

Paul says: “It is thanks to my sponsors and event guests that I’m able to achieve my fundraising goals. Together, we help make things better for the hard-working teams and their patients, whose lives have been turned upside-down by a stroke. I’m deeply grateful for the continued support, which makes all this possible.”
