The right space to talk, to share and for patients and whānau helps us to heal. Our work to improve facilities around our hospitals creates more meaningful spaces that help care for our loved ones even better and give everyone room to breathe.

Today Auckland City hospital has more than 3,500 treatment rooms and over 1,100 beds, caring for families from all over New Zealand, and seeing over 55,000 patients every year.

In order to further improve the comfort and care of patients and their whānau, Auckland Hospital Foundation fundraises to enhance the facilities in partnership with government funding.

With a growing and ageing population, we need to future-proof our hospital facilities. There is only so much that government funding alone can achieve.  Thanks to our supporters, we work together to ensure our hospital facilities keep up with the world’s best.

We are currently inviting supporters to contribute to refurbishing our hospital whānau rooms, to make them more meaningful, peaceful spaces for friends and families who need room to breathe while visiting loved ones in hospital.

We’re grateful to have raised enough funds to refurbish seven whānau rooms so far, all thanks to our supporters’ generosity.  But we need more help to keep going.

Our supporters also donated towards the new Stroke Centre of Excellence at Auckland City Hospital.  The integrated ward, which delivers acute care for stroke patients alongside rehabilitation services, is full of the latest innovation to help people heal faster on their recovery journey.

Auckland Hospital is seeing a steady increase in stroke admissions, as a result of population growth and the availability of new stroke treatments.  The new facility means clinicians can treat and rehabilitate more stroke patients in a single purpose-built facility.

Donations to the Stroke Centre helped pay for additional rehabilitation equipment, new technology and design features and greater access to shared and creative activities.
