Advancing leukaemia research in New Zealand

We are immensely grateful to the Pritchard Coutts Charitable Trust (managed by Public Trust) for a generous donation to support Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) clinical trials at Auckland City Hospital.

AML is an aggressive blood cancer, which progresses rapidly. For patients and their families, time is critical – and research is vital. These clinician-led trials aim to induce remission through intensive chemotherapy, followed by treatments designed to prevent recurrence and improve survival rates.

Each trial costs between $40,000 and $80,000, making philanthropic support essential to bringing advanced therapies to New Zealanders who might otherwise miss out. The impact is already clear: previous international studies, such as the AML19 trial in the UK, have led to a 20% increase in patient survival rates.

The Pritchard Coutts Charitable Trust is helping us expand access to groundbreaking treatments and give more New Zealanders with AML the chance of a better future.
