Enhancing the patient and whānau experience
Hospitals are often the setting for some of life's most difficult moments. Your support helps us ease that journey.
Your gifts help us create a more welcoming, comfortable environment for patients and their whānau. From thoughtfully designed spaces to providing extra TLC, you contribute to therapeutic benefits that truly make a difference.

Your impact goes over and above the essentials
While government funding covers essential hospital services, with you, we bring the heart-warming touches that help people feel truly cared for and enhance their experience.
Patients and their whānau might feel anxious, distressed, or uncomfortable – perhaps awaiting answers or awaiting treatment. In those moments, something as simple as a volunteer offering a warm cup of tea or a visit from a therapy dog can brighten their day.
At the Buchanan Rehabilitation Centre for people on a mental health healing journey, a sensory garden provides therapeutic benefits, engaging their senses: touch, scent, and even cooking with fresh herbs and plants. For stroke patients, a baking therapy group supports their rehabilitation, allows them to connect with others, and provides moments of normality and joy. Volunteers, like Ann and her furry friend Gracey, visit patients and their families to put smiles on their faces at an otherwise tough time – these little extras make a real impact.
These invaluable improvements and experiences are made possible by the generosity of our community. And they are at the heart of why we exist: to ensure every patient and every whānau receives the best possible care.
“The impact of Desmond’s gift will be ongoing and very helpful to other families, and it is comforting to know he is supporting family-centred care and involvement for patients.”
– Dr Farnsworth-Grodd, relative of Desmond Schollum, who left an extraordinary gift in his will – enabling the refurbishment of over 40 whānau rooms.
