News from the Foundation – Spring 2025

As we gratefully welcome spring, I am reminded of the renewal and growth this season represents – and how fitting that is for our Foundation’s work lately. Every story in the enclosed newsletter reflects the extraordinary difference your generosity makes for patients, their families, and our appreciative hospital teams. Your support literally brings new life!

Our cover story is a powerful example. Thanks to the Lindsay Foundation’s gift of a HOPE Box, someone like 17-year-old Taylor will receive the heart transplant they desperately need to survive. The world-first HOPE Box technology preserves hearts like never before, which means a donor heart can safely reach Auckland City Hospital from anywhere in New Zealand and even from Australia – giving patients like Taylor (featured in this newsletter) the chance to survive and thrive.

Alongside this incredible gift, our supporters have enabled clinical trials in acute myeloid leukaemia, thus bringing advanced cancer therapies to New Zealanders; they have equipped our cardiothoracic theatres with cutting-edge camera technology to improve complex heart surgeries; and they have helped us deliver more than 6,000 patient care packs so far this year – small comforts that mean the world to those facing unexpected hospital stays.

You will also read about the passion of individuals like Paul Harvey, who turned his stroke into a selfless mission to help others, and the compassion of volunteers like Ann and her therapy dog Gracey, who bring comfort to patients and their whānau every week.

Together with the leadership of our outstanding Board, including new Chair Josephine Gagan and new Trustee Simran Kaur, these stories exemplify how your generosity, vision, and collective action are helping to reshape healthcare at Auckland City Hospital.

On behalf of our hospital teams, thank you for standing with us and striving with us. Your acts of kindness – big and small – will help us ensure that Auckland City Hospital leads the way in world-class care, research, and innovation – for every New Zealander who needs it.

help you.

Your support will help Auckland City Hospital’s teams do even more for patients and whānau in their care, beyond what government funding can provide.
