Thanks to generous gifts from New Horizon Community Trust, Akarana Community Trust, and The Trusts Community Foundation, our cardiothoracic operating theatres are now equipped with a High-Definition HDC-300 Headlight Camera System – and it’s already bringing benefits.

Interim Theatre Manager Sharni Yun Shan says: “The camera system allows our surgical teams to see with greater clarity and precision, supporting safer surgeries and better outcomes for patients.”
The benefits don’t end there. The HDC-300 records high-quality video for training, collaborating, and sharing expertise to upskill the wider team. Most importantly, it supports expansion of the minimally invasive surgical programme (led by Cardiothoracic Surgeon Dr Christine Goh), meaning faster recoveries and improved results.
The technology is now enhancing the care of patients undergoing minimally invasive mitral valve procedures, where precision is critical, and the team plans to extend its use to other complex cardiac procedures.
Sharni Yun Shan says: “While we are only at the beginning of this journey, the results are very encouraging. Our clinical teams are excited by the improved user experience and the value this technology brings to both practice and patient care. “We look forward to sharing how the HDC 300 shapes our practice, enriches our teams’ experiences, and primarily, improves health outcomes for our patients.”
Together, we are helping to deliver safer surgeries, stronger teams, and better futures for patients across New Zealand.
Dr Christine Goh has been at the forefront of Minimally Invasive Mitral Valve Surgery in NZ, and she's been leading the team and guiding the programme’s success since day one. Uncover the future of heart surgery with Dr. Goh here.
